Conference to focus on women's health issues

The Power of the Woman: A Woman's Health Conference will be Oct. 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Henry Medical Center's new Education Center on the hospital campus.

Focusing on women and the interplay of women's health with the health of their families and the community, the free conference is designed to give women more knowledge to help them make choices about their lives, health and careers.

Four women leaders in Henry County will give presentations during the conference: Marcia Taylor, president of Bennett International Group; Dana Lemon, board member the Georgia Department of Transportation and a local business owner; Kay Pippin, Henry County Chamber of Commerce president; and Lorene Lindsey, mayor of Locust Grove.

Free medical screenings will be provided during the event, including bone density, migraine screenings, blood pressure, body-fat analysis, breast-cancer risk assessment, cholesterol and glucose screenings and information about irritable bowel syndrome.

Along with the screenings, the conference will offer yoga and fitness demonstrations, massage therapy, stress therapy, beauty makeovers and financialadvice.

The health fair will benefit Haven House, Henry County's shelter for women dealing with domestic violence.
