A significant minority of U.S. workers have played Cupid in the workplace, with more men than women reporting attempts.

Twenty-five percent of male respondents and 21 percent of female respondents reported at least one matchmaking attempt, according to an online poll of more than 3,000 workers last month by SnagAJob.com.

Men and women reported similar success rates on their attempted matches: 18 percent by the men and 16 percent by the women.

There are more than 63 million employed singles in U.S. workplaces, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

DATING DILEMMA: Another new survey reports that the percentage of single U.S. workers who even would consider dating a co-worker has declined from 42 percent three years ago to 36 percent today.

The Spherion Workplace Snapshot of nearly 1,400 U.S. workers, conducted by Harris Interactive last month, reported a significant gender gap. Only 28 percent of female workers, compared with 43 percent of male workers, said they would consider dating a fellow employee.

The percentage of those who think dating a co-worker would jeopardize their careers has dropped from 41 percent to 30 percent in the last year.
