Nineteen people were killed in Georgia traffic accidents over the Independence Day holiday weekend, including seven in metro Atlanta, the Georgia Department of Public Safety reported.
The department had predicted that 22 people would die in holiday weekend crashes across the state.
While the number of deaths were fewer than predicted, the 2,490 wrecks far exceeded the 1,874 that had been forecast. Those crashes resulted in 682 injuries.
In metro Atlanta, DeKalb County police and the Conyers post of the Georgia State Patrol each reported two fatalities, with the other three deaths being investigated by Chamblee police, Henry County police and the State Patrol post in Villa Rica.
