Every month the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission issues a series of warnings, recommendations and recalls on products to assist the public with safety. Here are some of the most interesting recalls since Jan. 1.

Bathroom medicine cabinets, sold at Lowe's and Home Depot: The recalled cabinets sold at Lowe's were named Estate by RSI and Insignia. Those sold at Home Depot were called Master Bath. The cabinets are being recalled due to the potential for the mirrors to detach from the cabinets. Consumers with these cabinets should immediately remove and safely dispose of the mirrors and contact RSI at 1-888-774-8062 for replacement mirrors.

Aloha portable electric heaters: Aloha portable electric heaters were sold at Wal-Mart and other small retail stores. The heaters have been recalled due to reports of "melting, smoking or catching fire." Consumers should stop using the heaters and contact Aloha Housewares at 1-800- 295-4448.

G.E. gas clothes dryers: This recall is due to a short-circuit in the dryer's wiring that can pose a shock risk to consumers with ungrounded dryers. Dryers with model number DWXR463GGWW and with serial numbers starting with AM, TL, SL, VL or ZL are included in the recall. They were sold by retail stores nationwide from September 2006 through October 2007. Customers should stop using and unplug the dryers and call G.E. at 1-866- 324-3732.

A.O. Smith gas water heaters: These water heaters have been recalled due to potentially high temperatures in the flue gases that poses a fire hazard. Also, the water heater's exhaust can leak into the surrounding area creating a carbon monoxide hazard. The heaters are 75 gallons and are labeled A.O. Smith or State. A.O. Smith model numbers FCG-75 300 and 301 with serial numbers ranging from LOTA071460 through LO7A144966. State model numbers GS6 75 XRR S or GS6 75 CRR S with serial numbers M07A000387 through M07A072884.

Consumers should immediately stop using the water heaters and contact A.O. Smith at 1-866-880-4661.

Carbon monoxide/smoke detectors: Maple Chase Co. has recalled about 280,000 carbon monoxide and combination carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. The detectors are being recalled due to faulty alarms. The recall includes FireX 10000 and 12000 series with item numbers 10000, 12000, 12000C, 12000-6, 12200, 12400, and 12400C. Units dated prior to June 1, 2007, are not included in the recall. Contact Maple Chase at 1-888-879-3906 for a replacement detector.
