Apartment of the Week: Rockledge
Chattahoochee River locale ideal for resident and her dog

Molly Baskwell and her dog Tug live at Rockledge Apartments in Marietta. Molly’s been there since 2003, moving in because the apartments were so convenient and the setting was so tranquil. She loved the scenery in this area right off the Chattahoochee River and the beautiful woods and landscaping surrounding the community. The longer she’s stayed there, the happier she’s been, and being just a mile from her work is a huge plus.
One of the major amenities at Rockledge is its location adjacent to the Chattahoochee River, with plenty of walking trails for Baskwell and Tug the pug to enjoy.
Directions from downtown Atlanta:
Take I-75 north to Exit 258 (Cumberland Blvd). Turn right on Cumberland Boulevard and travel to Akers Mill Road. Turn right on Akers Mill Road. Go approximately 1/4 mile, turn left at Powers Ferry Road. Rockledge is less than 1/4 mile on the right.

What’s her apartment like? Baskwell is renting a two-bedroom one-bath apartment with a sun room. She loves the storage including a linen closet and great walk-in closet in the master bedroom. “That’s what sold me on the apartment, the amount of storage. There’s a great laundry room and a large pantry. That’s really what’s kept me here. I’ve never found a floor plan I liked better at this price,” she said.
It’s Tug’s apartment: “I say it’s not my apartment, it’s Tug’s,” laughed Baskwell, as she talked about her lively two-year-old rescued pug. “There’s a long hallway which is his runway for chasing his toys. Every day I come home from working as an accounting manager and he gets his dinner and we go out. Only then can I have my own dinner while he settles down with a bone. He’s a great dog.”
Close to everything: Baskwell volunteers at the Georgia Aquarium and she hops on I-75 south to get downtown in just a few minutes. I-75 is also her route to Chattanooga where she visits the aquarium there, or she swings around on I-285 to head up the outlets on Ga. 400 and to see family. “You can get down to Buckhead on the interstate or take the scenic route through residential streets. Even though I’ve lived here for six years, it’s still fun to find back roads to take to get around,” she smiled.
Renovation all around: Rockledge is undergoing a transformation and there’s a new clubhouse under construction. “They are building a new clubhouse with an indoor running track, 75-person movie theatre and indoor basketball court. We’re also getting new picnic areas with gas grills and outdoor fireplaces. It’s amazing what they’re doing here. I can’t wait to see the finished product,” Baskwell added.
Advice to other apartment shoppers: Baskwell finds the most important thing is to make sure you’ve got a checklist of the things that are important, and then take that with you when you’re looking for a place. For example, she finds that one of the things that makes Rockledge so great is that her building holds a lot of families as well as single people and she appreciates everyone’s friendliness. “I would never hesitate to go to anyone here if I was ever in need of anything,” she said, and that’s a great recommendation for finding an apartment community that feels like home.
