When Travis and Tonya Hall built their home in Duluth, they needed to make a few adjustments.

Hall, a former Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman, is a big guy — and so are his friends.

"We raised everything because he's so tall," Tonya Hall said, referring to her 6'6" husband.

The counters are higher and the master bedroom closet was designed with deeper racks to accommodate his suit jackets and shirts.

In the living room, Tonya Hall chose large sofas and loveseats with double deep cushions.

"Everything's bigger. All the guys who come over here are huge," she said with a smile. "They're 6'5", 280 pounds and I don't want my couch to break when they sit down."

Travis Hall played for the Falcons from 1995 to 2004. He finished his career playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. These days, he devotes his time to ProSpot Fitness, a state-of-the-art exercise equipment line that he co-owns with other NFL players.

Old World meets High Mountain

Tonya Hall said she looked at the design of other homes in the area but most had "that Southern sorority look." She calls her look more Old World-meets-High Mountain.

They built the home six years ago and have lived in Atlanta for 13 years.

The 12,000-square-foot home is on three levels. The bedrooms are upstairs; the living room, dining room and kitchen areas are on the main floor; and the game room, theater, home gym and kitchen/bar area are in the basement.

The kitchen is where Tonya Hall spends 90 percent of her time. She loves to cook and attended culinary classes in Italy.

"My kids are good eaters — they'll eat anything," she said.

Her tools are an eight-burner Wolf range, two warming drawers, Gaggenau steam oven and a Sub-Zero refrigerator. She loves the look of her granite counters, custom cabinetry and appliance garages. She also added a small floor-level refrigerator to stock juice boxes and water bottles.

The Halls' boys, Jacob, 10, and Austin, 12, share a bedroom. Their games of choice are baseball, ice hockey and tennis. As an added touch, the curtain rod in their bedroom was crafted from a hockey stick.

The Halls believe that hockey gave Travis balance and other skills to excel in any sport. That's the approach their sons are taking, too.

The softer side

Seven-year-old Tatiana's bedroom is done in lavender with hand-painted fairies and other whimsical scenes.

"This is her little princess room," Tonya Hall said.

The crib in her bedroom was used by all the children.

"She won't let me take it out of her room because she wants a little sister," Tonya Hall said, laughing.

The home includes an attic playroom where the walls are painted with an underwater scene that includes a scuba diver, sharks and tropical fish. Tonya Hall also created a small scrapbooking nook that overlooks the great room, allowing her to keep an eye on the children.

Throughout the home, faux painting by Designs byMyndi transformed basic trim, molding and doors with an aged walnut wash. She also painted the Hall's master bedroom pewter to compliment their dark Spanish-style carved bedroom furniture.

The fireplace looks like limestone but is a man-made, much lighter composite material. Tonya Hall said it's low maintenance and high quality.

"You have to search these things out," she said.

The conversation starter is the vintage 1941 Harley Davidson motorcycle parked in the basement. Tonya Hall bought the bike for Travis for their anniversary. The couple met in Alaska as children and started dating in college.

"We eloped and got married on a Harley at a drive-through wedding chapel (in Las Vegas)," she said.
