Thanks in thankless times?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Times are tough. The stock market seems to fall lower ever day. People are losing their homes and their jobs. Now comes Thanksgiving.
How can you give “thanks” in thankless times? This year, just what should we be giving thanks for?
What about you? What are you thankful for?

Even though I was recently laid off, I’m thankful for my family, a roof over my head, having a future in front of me, my nephews, my niece, and for having the love of my life supporting me. Most importantly, i’m thankful for all the blessings that God has provided, seen and unseen!

Life, health, strength, a sound mind, and a wife and family that loves me! All the other stuff is temporal anyway. So many have it so much worse than I do. I dare not take anything for granted! I am even thankful for the current test I’m undergoing and look forward to the testimony!

It takes too much energy and time to be unhappy or ungrateful. I’ve got family and friends and can put food on the table… even if it isn’t much. The sun comes up and I just plain ol’ CHOOSE to be happy.
Makes all the difference!

I have family that loves me and I love them.
I have a job! I have transportation to get to that job. I have a little money in the bank. I have a nice warm home.
I have wonderful friends.
I agree with Old School. It takes too much to be miserable. Life is too short. Every minute you are miserable, is a minute you cannot get back.

“How can you give “thanks” in thankless times? This year, just what should we be giving thanks for?” Are you kidding me? Is that really a question??
Despite our differences and our struggles, we still live in the greatest country in the world - a place where we are free to worship, have freedom of speech and take control of our own lives and destiny. I’m extremely thankful for my family and all of my friends, even if we sometimes disagree politically. I’m thankful I have a job, a partner of 8.5 years who loves me dearly and a roof over my head. I’m especially thankful for a God who loves me despite my faults and misgivings and has provided a way to eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ. Happy Thanksgiving to each of you.

Keith: I’m sure you stink a lot worse. You are disgusting and that was a terrible thing to be thankful for. People like you are what’s wrong with this country. I feel sorry for you since you have nothing else to be thankful for. Go away and let people be happy!!!

If anything, we should all be even more thankful for the things that we do have. My husband is out of work, but I’m thankful every day that I have my job and we still have our house. We’ve cut back on a lot of material things, but we have what we need. We have each other, our health, and our families.

I first give thanks to God for all his blessings that he had given me. I thank the Lord for my family and for what he had already done. Everyone that is living should be thankful just to be alive. This is a time in which we all need to find a way to be a blessing to someone else that’s in need. It is only by the grace of the Lord that it is not worst. Tough times never last, but tough people will. I would highly recommend that everyone read Bishop Jakes new book “Before You Do”. It is your mindset that will determine how far you will go based on the decision you make. Don’t allow other people bad decisions to effect your life. That what you living in today.

I am thankful for so much! On Thanksgiving 2008 I will celebrate my 27th anniversary with my husband. We have one wonderful daughter together and I received two great step-sons in the bargain. I love the holidays, even when times are hard. I am thankful for being able to be in school at 51 and getting the opportunity to use the Hope Scholarship provided through the lottery. My twenty-four year old daughter is also attending school on Hope. We are so fortunate to live in the state of Georgia in the USA. I am thankful for having a home that is paid for and not having to worry about a mortgage. I pray for people who are losing their homes. I am thankful for having my pets. My little Yorkie, Lexi, is my constant companion. Natascha, the black cat is always glad to see us when we come home. It is wonderful to have the love of animals.
