What’s your shopping strategy?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
On your mark, get ready…shop!
As retailers will gladly - and eagerly - tell you, it’s never too early to being Christmas shopping. Consumers are already being bombarded by holiday ads touting the best and newest toys, electronics and fashions.
Some people find it hard to get in the shopping spirit while they’re still munching on Halloween candy. Others (show offs) already have that first gift stashed away in the back of the closet. Layaway seems to be a big selling point for retailers these days.
Here are some tips to get through the holiday shopping period.
What about you? Are you an early or last minute shopper? Do you live for Black Friday? With the economy in the pit, do you plan to shop discount or not much at all?

I’m in my 50’s & have always been alone with no family or friends so I’ve been spared the holiday shopping nightmares.

I started my shopping back in July. I see things I think my family members would like so I pick them up along the way. I am about 1/2 way finished with shopping. I really like to have it all finished by Thanksgiving weekend, so I can enjoy stress free holidays.
It’s nice to hit the malls and NOT have to stand in any of those lines. Knowing that I am all finished is such a great feeling. It’s also a great feeling to pay for everything with cash so there are no bills to start the new year off with. That’s another great feeling of the holidays. NO DEBT!!

On-line, on-line, on-line
After going to 4 different stores over the course of 6 hours only to find it out of stock, that is if I could find a minimum wage temp who knew anything, I went home to my computer. 15 minutes later I found exactly what I had been searching for. Sure I had to pay shippping, but I still spent more on gas looking locally for the darn thing.
I still get out and browse, but most of my holiday shopping is done from my home office.

My wife and I don’t exchange Christmas gifts, having no kids we just do stuff all year long and then at Christmas we rent a condo at the beach and take off and stay there the entire week of Christmas. It is nice not to be in the lines and waiting. I do send gifts to my great niece and nephew but like the other gentleman I do that on-line w/ Toys R Us. So you all enjoy and I will think about each and everyone of you while I am eating fresh seafood this Christmas. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day.

Be prepared, be considerate and polite, go to the bathroom before you start shopping!
If you really want anything….get there the day before and camp out. The big items will not be there if you show up at 5am.

I get a lot of my Black Friday and pre Christmas shopping done with the help of gottadeal.com. They have great shoppers giving cost saving coupons and codes. Plus, they even have some of the ads before Black Friday.

I prepare for Black Friday with a list and strategy based upon whats for sale. About 1 month before, I start scanning the gottadeal.com website for deals and Black Friday ads. Based upon what is on sale and store opening times, I plot my stops. I usually have a list with my ads, dress in layers, and bring a chair with a book. Most of the people in line are fun to talk to and when the doors open it is adrenaline time.

I shop a little before Black Friday if I see any huge special deals on “Gottadeal.com” Then I make my list and camp out for the deals I need and enjoy my day shopping. Gottadeal helps me all year round.

I’m all about Gottadeal.com! In the weeks/days leading up to Black Friday, I do my research. I usually have specific items in mind and their site makes it easy to hunt them down. Then I check the best deals against what’s available online right now.
Two years ago we camped out at Circuit City and got 2 32” LCD’s (one for us, one for in-laws). Last year we stood in line at Target for about an hour and got a few things on sale there. There’s no plan yet for this year, but I’m hoping I won’t be standing in line! :)

I make the most of my money and time by stalking www.gottadeal.com starting in September. When Black Friday ads are leaked they will find their way to the Gottadeal site. Those ads help me to budget for Black Friday and to also plan my shopping plan for the day. Gottadeal makes my Black Friday shopping a lot less stressful!

I’ve done most of my shopping on line - a lot of free shipping during the holiday. I refuse to stand in long lines to spend my money because retailers have skeleton crews at the registers.

Wow Vicki, I am almost sorry that no one likes you. I will do the same this year as I always do. I buy whatever is within 10 feet of the first door to a store I can find. I don’t care if they like the gifts or not. I usually don’t like the people I am buying for in the first place so why go through the trouble.

As money is tighter than ever this year, we plan on doing 99% of our Christmas shopping between the hours of 4 am and 12 noon on November 29th. We want to get the best bang for our buck and we believe this is the way to get it.
GO DAWGS!

Fortunately, I still have a job. Unfortunately since my employer furloughed the staff 2 days per month, I can’t afford to participate this year. I am so looking forward to Dec. 26th.

You people who camp out in parking lots to shop at 4AM need to get a life. Try the internet! Now make sure you mow down each other as you stampede through the door like kids at a Who concert. Make sure you bring a heavy pocketbook to swing at the lady next to you while you isle dive for that last IPOD. HO HO HO. That’s the Christmas spirit!
