What’s the worst Halloween treat you’ve received?

Let’s get this straight: All candy is not created equal.

Part of the Halloween excitement is going back to your house and dumping the contents of your trick or treat bag on the living room floor. The best treats go here, the less desirable treats go there. At some point, I’m sure those items showed up in your younger brother’s or sister’s bag. (Gee, how did that happen?)

One of my co-workers said his parents once handed out pecans (in the shell) for Halloween. Can you imagine ribbing he received for being the kid whose parents gave out pecans as a treat?

Did you keep or toss the fruit? Mr. Goodbars high on your list? What about Candy Corn? Have you been tricked by the treats in your bag? What’s the worst or best Halloween treat you’ve received?

Candy Corn is always a good choice. Those mysterious brown and orange candy in the wrapper that doesn’t have a name on it…those are a little scary. I never liked the people who gave out fruit, because that was the one night a year I was allowed to eat pounds of candy, I wasn’t interested in your fruit. One year a woman gave out nickles, and another year she gave out checks for $5. We always liked going to her house. More so with the checks than the nickle. I’m not that old that a nickle was really worth it, even when I was a kid.

I wonder during these more cost-conscious times how polite the children around the city will be. I suppose if you don’t have the “right” candy to give out, then you should darken your door. I will be sure that my children say “Trick or Treat” and thank you regardless of what they receive. And on the other side of that, I’m hoping for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! No coconut candy! Yuck!

Individual Candy corn, the raisin box, fish sticks, jelly beans, Taco Bell hot sauce packs, left over Easter peeps, small cans of green peas, and arrest warrants.

Candy Corn. Tastes like sweet wax. Yuck.

Those little pumpkins. Tastes like sweet wax.

Those peanut butter things with the orange/brown wrapper. The wrapper would never come off completely, and the candy was gross.

Those little peanut butter turds with the black and orange wax paper wrappers are the worst. Anything that says “Hersheys” on the wrapper is A-OK with me though!
