What are You Eating Christmas Eve?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
My family has a long tradition of eating out on Christmas Eve — usually at an El Toro. Our brood of 15 or so orders lots of nachos and enchiladas, drinks our share of beer and often ends the meal singing “Winter Wonderland” loudly (but not off key) until it’s time to go help Santa.
We’ve been creating this holiday mayhem for about 15 years. What restaurant traditions do you share with friends or loved ones on Christmas Eve?

We did Chinese after the 7:30 church service until college. Then my brother and I both were working in the restaurants on Christmas Eve….Now he still has to close the restaurant on that night so we see him on Christmas Day instead. My folks and began doing cheese, fruit, crackers, wine, that sort of stuff for Christmas Eve. This year my children and I will be attending and earlier service but the whole fruit, cheese, etc (no wine) will be our list.
The year that some DUMB woman told me it was a shame a ‘poor heathern like you isn’t in church’ while I waited her table was the year I decided to NEVER go to a restaurant on Christmas Eve again…..I would have rather been in church with my family like she was….but since I had to wait on idiots like her I did not get off until 2 AM!

We go to my Mother’s house Christmas Eve and dine on Standing Rib Roast, Broccoli-Rice Casserole, rolls, and a nice green salad. For dessert there is her homemade pumpkin pie with REAL whipped cream, and a store bought Mrs. Smith’s Chocolate Silk pie for the kids…..
Then, Christmas morning (the entire family spends the night), we have fresh from the farm sausage and eggs, Cinnamon rolls (pillsbury) and my all time favorite - Bear Claws and butter!!!!!!
