Paid Self-Park at Phipps
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If you’ve been to Phipps Plaza lately (since Saturday), you may have noticed new signs for UpFront Plus!
It’s a new parking service at the P3 Peachtree Street entrance being introduced just in time for the holidays.
For $4, you can self-park in one of 140 allocated spots and attendants will help you with strollers, packages, etc. Phipps says the service is great for holiday shoppers and shoppers with children.
For $7 plus tip, you can still use valet.
What do you think a busy shopper should do?

I’m healthy, single and would rather walk two blocks than give someone money to park my car or be closer to the location (mall, restaurant, etc..). Besides, you get good exercise and it’s less traffic when it’s time to leave. Society has become mega-lazy!

If I had the money to spend or I had a bunch of kids to deal with or I was buying a lot of stuff that I didn’t want to cart halfway across creation then yes I would pay but I would bet most of the people who use this will do it just because they are lazy and wasteful but who cares? It’s their money.

I always park where I feel my 81 Chevy pickup is safe. If I get to hold my girlfriends hand while we walk it is worth it. We laugh and talk. I aint paying anyone to park my truck and I have a CCP. We enjoy our time together. I earn a handsome salary but I will not pay for preferential parking. I was poor once.

I mean we’ll pay to park close to the mall entrance and then we’ll pay to go to the gym.

As a general rule, no, I would not pay just to park closer. There have been days (cold and raining, not feeling well, etc) when I probably would have taken advantage of the service but those are few and far between.

No, I usually park in the spot the furtherest away from the mall. I too am single, healthy & love a good walk.
That said, if it’s pouring down rain, or I am with my mother, than yes, I will pay to park for the convenience.

I’ve paid to use the lot at Lenox, if I was taking my mother-in-law shopping. But there are two places convenient to department store entrances that no one ever uses, so most of the time I park there. No, I’m not sharing.

Mall of GA does this also for $3. I use it….with heavy bags or little children in tow, it is easier and safer at night. Plus, hopefully, there is a less chance for theft and I can run back and forth to my car if christmas shopping and if the weather is too cold or rainy (maybe soon), it’s nice to be up front!. I get my exercise in the mall….

I’m not sure what being single has to do with where you park at the mall, but…
I am a mommy to a three year old and also an infant. I always park a distance away, so we can walk, enjoy the outside and point out colors of cars, trees, sounds, etc. I am not lazy and will not instill laziness into my boys. I am healthy and can push a stroller, hold a hand and carry bags.
I can understand it, if you are with elderly or handicapped folks, but out of general laziness. Sheesh.
What is this world coming to?

Nope, that’s for the lazy fat people. The same one who will wait for a parking space to open up, even when the one right next to it is already free. What’s the walking distance saved? 10 feet? And all to go walk miles through the mall. Idiots.

People who shop in malls are idiots to begin with.

Fat & lazy aren’t the only ones paying to park. Atlanta’s crime rate is out of control and especially during the Christmas season. Walking with a lot of shopping bags makes you an easy target in this city. If I am shopping in town, you can bet I will take advantage of this service.

I have 5 kids under 6 with 2 in a stroller you bet I would pay to park there! It can be incredibly dangerous to try & cross the street (or even a parking lot) in Buckhead with small children.

Anything for a buck…. Soon Phipps will offer to wipe your butt for a buck.

To Shaneekqua:
You’re a JERK! You want to be slammed-how about this….what kind of name is Shaneekqua? At least I gave all my kids normal names & spelled them the standard way.
You think it’s easy with 5 kids I bet your lazy A#( parks illegaly in the handicapped spots.

Really? Phipps is going to provide me the opportunity to pay them money to park instead of parking for free??? Wow, what a great service!! Thanks! I was thinking that I had too much money and that I would really like to give it to Phipps Plaza!
Anybody who thinks this is about the customers is delusional. This is just ANOTHER way for them to squeeze money out of you, by charging for something that 1. costs them no extra and 2. used to be free.

Capitalism at its finest. A service is offered for a fee. Some will choose to pay some won’t. Quit yer whining about it. If you love to walk in a parking lot do it. If you hate it, pay $4. Sheesh it’s quite simple.

Where I shop all the parking is free. Often I’ll spend less money in the store than it cost to park at these places you’re talking about.
