The wood fire is burning, the cats and I are snug indoors. You couldn’t pay me enough to go shopping today.I’ve only read about what goes on today,I’ve never seen it.I never will.

I had to get flat fixed and thought that the tire place opened and hour earlier than it really did. So, silly me decided to pop into a couple stores to see what was going on. The lines were to back of the stores with the stores still full of people shopping. So, silly me again thought maybe if I find a deal, the wait is worth it. All the good stuff was gone and furthermore I was informed that they only had a handful of those items to start with. Ron at 8:29 is a smart dude. Got my tire fixed and went home with a lesson.

There is absolutely NOTHING in this world that I want or need badly enough to shop for on Black Friday! Like Ron, I am enjoying my fire and another cup of coffee.

My daughter went to Best Buy at 3 am and found a super long line and most of what she went for sold out before getting into the store. Hubby and I went to Target at 5:50 for a 6 am open and got all but one thing we went for. We got great deals and were home by 7:15. This is my first time and it wasn’t bad. I won’t ever go camp out over night for any sale.

I usually go shopping just like everyone else. But this year I’ve decided to shop throughout December. The hassle is not worth, but to each is own. Have fun while your out there. Man it’s cold.

I work much too hard for my money to not try to keep as much of it in my pocket as I can. I’m willing to sacrifice a little laziness for great deals, being done with shopping, and reaping the benefits of my extra cash on hand!

I have 2 words to say about shopping on Black Friday—NEVER AGAIN! By the time I got to the Mall of GA shortly after 6am, the parking lot was packed. I went inside only to discover that what I went looking for was sold out. The clerk told me I could order it from the website at the doorbuster price and that’s what I did. I stopped at the Starbucks in my local Kroger (NO line!), got my latte, and went home. Lesson learned!

This was my first Black Friday…ever. My brother, sister-in-law and I headed to Athens rather than any of the Gwinnet malls. Never in my life have I given into they hype of Christmas shopping. But, I thought Id see what it was all about.

We got to Kohl’s on 316 at 3:58am and didn’t have to wait in the cold. The doors were opened as we got out of our car. It was hilarous seeing grown ups push their way into a store. From far back, the store looked as if it was swallowing the lines. People were rude, and it was crazy how they were grabbing items so fast off the shelves. The sale prices were amazing, I have to say.

My sis-in-law had scouted out the sale papers and knew her plan of attack. While my brother waited in line at Kohl’s, I ran her next door to Wal-Mart to get a few items. They kept the big sale items on pallets in the middle of the main isles, complete Wal-Mart style to block up the aisles and impede the flow of traffic. I was smart and checked out in the Garden Center…no waiting.

Then off to Toy’s R Us. People were parking anywhere their car would fit. There were people parked on both sides of the side street entrance. My sis and I got out while my brother circled like a Christmas vulchar looking for a parking spot. I went and grabbed a place in line, it was already wrapped around to the back aisle. I just picked up something, which ended up being half off, so good deal, just to have something to stand in line with. We tag teamed and would trade standing in line for grabbing items. And, there were no carts mind you. We ended up in the slow line, and stood there for an hour and 20 min. Overall, great savings.

Then to Academy Sports where we picked up 2 of the trampolines for $145, with netting..so awesome savings. Had to empty the van and rearrange it since we got the trampline Wal-Mart had too. Academy Sports has a better quality one for $50 less. Again, minimal waiting in line there.

Over all, my first Black Friday wasn’t terrible. BUT I do have to say I was shocked that parents would drag their kids out of bed that early in the morning, especially the infants. Plus, I was just in amazement to see so many women…at 4am, primped with full make up and hair coiffed. I think it should be mandatory to come in your pajamas so everyone can see just how crazy we really are to get up at 3’freaking am just to do some Christmas shopping.

What was the meaning of this Holiday again? Oh yeah, lets spoil our kids and let them not realize why we celebrate this holiday. So, I gave in, I tried it…and next year, I will be warm in my bed and wake up and do my shopping online. I can’t stand the rudeness of the crazies and I cant stand the incompetance of the slow cashiers.

I had a great time shopping on Black Friday this year. My two boys, ages 12 and 11, intend to make black friday shopping a yearly tradition-including the 4:30am wake up. No, I didn’t drag them out of bed, they set their own alarms- I told them I wouldn’t wake them, and we wouldn’t go unless they were awake! We got every item we went to Walmart for, every customer was happy there, every employee was helpful and friendly. No pushing, no shoving, no line at the checkout. No problem parking either!:) We went to toys r us a few yrs back, never again. We also tried home depot and best buy, never again (home depot was so bad on black friday- they lost my shopping dollars forever). Making black friday a pleasant shopping experience is an art, and the walmart on 41 in Acworth has it down perfectly.

My wife needed a new PC. She did her homework and at 5AM we were standing outside Fry Electronics. By 6AM — with some great customer service — we were headed home with the advertised model in hand. No bait-and-switch, tons of helpful sales people. A good morning.

I went to Decatur this morning and had a great time. Had a blast looking at all the cool stuff in Heliotrope, they’re at 248 W. Ponce, had a nice breakfast and it was a really relaxed atmosphere, thank goodness I’m not a mall person! I’m going back to Heliotrope tonight for the Fab Friday special that starts at 6pm. There are a lot of shops on WePo (West Ponce) that are having specials and staying open late.

WHY would ANYONE with a brain go shopping today? I just don’t get it. If all that hustle-bustle puts you in the holiday spirit or (whatever!), you need therapy. Crazy.

I scoured the papers yesterday as well as the online ads and saw absolutely NOTHING that would make me want to get out of bed in the cold, dark, dead of night to go stand outside in a mob waiting for a store to open its doors. Absolutely NOTHING.

So, I sat by the fire and watched I Love Lucy reruns, drank hot chocolate, did some Christmas shopping online, visited with family, and played with my dogs.

All in all….a VERY relaxing day!
