Ready for Black Friday yet?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
According to a recent survey by Maritz Research, members of Gen X & Gen Y are more likely to shop during Black Friday madness.
Maybe they’re the only ones with the patience to endure long lines and crowds.
Do you plan to shop on Black Friday?
What stores will you hit and what promotions are you most excited about? (And don’t forget to tell your age).

I’m very much looking forward to it. I’m 21 on Monday and have been awaiting this day for months. I’m badly in need of new clothes, so how can I pass up the sales? My fiance and I both are prepared to be at our local mall by 5:30 AM to get parked for the 6:00 opening of the doors. My mother, however, refuses. She’s 43 and says after being up all day cooking for Thanksgiving, the last thing she wants to do is get up early the next day and go fight store crowds.

no way. i do almost 100% of my shopping online now. forget the malls, forget the crowds, parking, gas prices, rude sales people and fellow shoppers. all that is easily traded for a shipping and handling fee and return shipping and handling if needed but it usually isn’t.

I’m a “Gen Xer”, and one would never be able to drag me out for “Black Friday”, except my mother has the past 2 years, and honestly, it hasn’t been that bad. I even enjoyed going with her (she’s a GREAT bargain shopper!) I guess it depends on where you live and stuff, but these idiots that get up before the crack of dawn to go shopping just KILL ME! We at least wait until after 11am!!!!

Yes, Yes, and Yes!!! I have been waiting for this day every since it ended last year. It is the thrill of getting the outrageously low prices on much wanted items that get people excited about Black Friday.

I’m 19 and my brother is 23 and we are going to camp out at Best Buy for Black Friday. We’re only going for one thing and he’s the one buying anyways. But I have been waiting for this for a long time simply for the thrill. I think it’s always fun to see how crazy people can get and want to see some crazyness this year. We’re going there right after we finish eating or earlier with our chairs, blankets, and coffee.

I plan to shop online, in the convenience, warmth and leisure of my home. I live in a rural area and the shipping and handling fees outweigh the hassle of cold weather, the cost of gas, driving 45 minutes to the mall, waiting in traffic(sometimes over an hour)to exit the interstate to the mall, trying to find a parking spot, the pushy crowds in the stores, and the rude sales people.

I’m 26, and I hardly ever go to the mall. There’s no way I’ll be there that Friday.

I love to get a good deal, but the best deals are to be had the first of the year when everything goes on clearance. I never have and I never will shop on black Friday. If I could avoid it I wouldn’t do any shopping at all from the November 15 until January. I hate to have to go to a Mall to get anything.

I enjoy the Christmas shopping season, when the stores are decorated and people are rushing around in the holiday spirit. I enjoy it even more because I finished buying my gifts for other people in early November. The shopping is just for looking, or buying things for myself.

Hi-I am 35 and I think the name Black friday is stupid-but I think the day is fun. The Wed. through Sunday of Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday time. I enjoy it all. I would go to a store at 4:00 am to buy a big ticket item-like saving 600.00 on a flat screen tv, but I wouldn’t go to say Target, for example, to buy a board game for 10.00 when it will be 15.00 at 11:00 am. I find it exciting to get into the winter/Christmas spirit the day after Thanksgiving. Do some shopping-relaxed shopping, get some deals, go out to lunch, watch people-I think it is a great day to enjoy with friends and family! Start off at a coffee shop-have your sale ads in hand! Have fun-do what you like! It is also a great day to get those Christmas lughts onto the house!

Katie,
I’ve always called them sheep, but I think “cattle” is more apt, what with the obesity problem these days. Thanks for updating the terminology!
P.S. That’s the day we celebrate Buy Nothing Day
