Carver-Columbus can’t top Northside-Warner Robins

The Class AAA champion Carver Tigers out-ran, out-passed and arguably out-hit the Northside-Warner Robins Eagles, the reigning Class AAAA champions for the past two years who are now in AAAAA. But they didn’t out-score Northside, which took a 7-6 victory.
The Tigers caught a break on the opening kickoff and scored on a 1-yard run by Zachius Morgan after recovering a Northside fumble at the 17. The extra point was blocked. Northside took the lead with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter after a long drive, Joe Scott scoreing on a 3-yard run.
• Camden County 44, Hoover (Ala.) 16: The Wildcats’ defense shut down the Buccaneers, who didn’t register a first down until nearly midway in the second quarter. Darrell Williams and Ean Days both rushed for two touchdowns for Camden (3-0), the third-ranked team in Class AAAAA.
• Cairo 10, Thomasville 7: Angelo Pease passed for 129 yards and ran for 76 to lead the Syrupmakers (3-0), the top-ranked team in Class AAA.
• Lowndes 30, Ware County 0: The top-ranked Vikings (3-0) held Ware (1-2) to four first downs while getting two rushing touchdowns each from Kharry Franklin and Greg Reid.
•Valdosta 14, Jonesboro 10: The visiting Cardinals threw a scare into No. 6-ranked Valdosta (3-0), which needed an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter from Kim Kier to win.
• Athens Academy 41, Walker 17: McKay Matthews caught two touchdown passes and added a 72-yard punt return for a third score to lead the Spartans (3-0).
• Bainbridge 28, Lee County 6: Thomas Smiley led a strong rushing attack for the No. 4-ranked Bearcats (2-0), gaining 128 yards and scoring a touchdown.
• Baldwin 13, Peach 3: Jerrico Ford rushed for two touchdowns in the third quarter to lead Baldwin (3-0).
• Brookstone 14, Greenville 13: Joey Lewis’ 5-yard run in the fourth quarter gave the edge to the visiting Cougars (3-0).
• Charlton County 29, Pierce County 0: Freshman Tre Hamilton ran for 187 yards on 21 carries, including a 44-yard touchdown run to break open the game in the third quarter.
• Coffee 24, Shaw 0: No. 9-ranked Coffee (3-0) blew open the game with 21 third-quarter points. Melvin Loving rushed for two touchdowns and Marcus Wilson added another. Shaw fell to 0-3.
• Dalton 28, South Paulding 14: The Catamounts stayed unbeaten (3-0) on the passing of Stryker Brown, who threw touchdown passes to Reeves Coker and Tevin Collins.
• Elbert County 42, Butler 8: Ronnie Hughes ran for 207 yards, including touchdown runs of 74 and 11 yards.
• Emanuel County Institute 38, Bryan County 8: Dexter Moody scored four rushing touchdowns, and Washaun Ealey added two more as top-ranked ECI (3-0) coasted.
• Fitzgerald 34, Worth County 14: The Purple Hurricanes (3-0) scored 21 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters for the victory.
• Gainesville 30, White County 7: Blake Sims completed 11 of 18 passes for 147 yards, including a 35-yard scoring pass to Tyler Jones, to lead Gainesville (3-0).
• Houston County 20, Bradwell Institute 16 : Garrick Davis led Houston (3-0) with 114 yards on 27 carries.
• LaGrange 30, Stephens County 6: The Grangers opened up a 16-0 halftime lead, led by Ocie Salter’s 5-yard run and a 33-yard touchdown pass from Rodney Tolbert to Salter.
• Laney 21, Dublin 11: Eugene Moore rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown in the winning cause.
• Model 28, Trion 25: Quarterback Ryan Winters scored from 2 yards out with 5:10 left to cap a come-from-behind win for the Blue Devils.
• Pepperell 28, Villa Rica 7: Brandon Whitaker rushed for 140 yards as the Dragons improved to 3-0.
• Riverside Military 48, Rabun County 2: Quarterback Julian Suber ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another score as Riverside improved to 3-0.
• St. Pius 35, Oconee County 27: The Golden Lions (3-0) rushed for 401 yards, led by Jonathan Carter’s 157 yards and two touchdowns and Cole Moon’s 152 yards and a score.
• Westside-Macon 52, Upson-Lee 7: Danny McFadden threw two touchdown passes, and Robert Brown rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns to lead Westside (3-0).
• Wilcox County 30, Wilkinson County 14: Nick Marshall threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Marshall and a 15-yarder to Rashad Martin to pace the No. 2-ranked Patriots (3-0).
