For the third consecutive season, Brookwood found itself in a 0-2 hole after last week’s loss to North Gwinnett. And just like in 2006 and 2007, the Broncos came out angry and physical in the third game of the season.
Brice Smith led a strong rushing attack with 176 yards and a touchdown to lead Brookwood past Shiloh, 28-7.

The Broncos won for the 14th consecutive time against Shiloh (2-1, 0-1 Region 8-AAAAA), which had been looking to start 3-0 for the first time since 1991.
“I’m proud of the way our kids played,” Brookwood coach Mark Crews said. “We struggled a little bit on offense the first two games, [but the players] didn’t get discouraged. The kids responded; they bounced back. Winning soothes a lot of wounds.”
On Shiloh’s first possession, quarterback Mark Wright’s lateral pass went through the hands of receiver D.L. Stephens, and Brookwood defensive back Nick Moore recovered the fumble inside the Shiloh 10-yard line.
“They helped us out a little bit,” Crews said.
Brookwood (1-2, 1-0) responded immediately, Smith scoring from the 3 on the second play from scrimmage. With less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, Marvis Lane broke several tackles to score from 26 yards and put the Broncos ahead 14-0.
“You kind of keep hammering away,” Crews said of a rushing attack that was held to 68 yards last week against North Gwinnett.
The Broncos opened a 21-0 cushion on its opening drive of the second half. On a key fourth-and-3 from the Shiloh 29-yard line, quarterback Ben Mclane found Smith for a 28-yard completion, setting up Mclane’s 1-yard touchdown run.
Shiloh’s Wright and Stephens hooked up in the fourth quarter on a 45-yard touchdown pass.
