Jordan Cox of Duluth is the boys 16-and-under tennis national champion. The home-schooler defeated Denis Kudla of Arlington, Va., 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 in the singles final of the USTA Boys 18 National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., on Sunday.
Cox is the third Atlanta-area player in 10 years to win a title in Kalamazoo. Scoville Jenkins was the boys 18 champion in 2004, and Robby Ginepri won the boys 16 division in 1999. Both turned pro within 18 months. Cox earned an automatic wild card into the junior division of the U.S. Open, which begins later this month in New York.
