Buster Posey, of Florida State University and Lee County High School, was named the winner of the 2008 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award. The award is given annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player.
Posey's selection marks the second time in the award's 31-year history that a catcher received the honor. Jason Varitek (Georgia Tech) was the recipient in 1994.
Georgia's Gordon Beckham was also a finalist for the award.
