Class AAAA champs seek TV time for Georgia-Florida preps showdown

The Class AAAA football champions from Georgia and Florida are planning a September showdown in Warner Robins.
Northside, Georgia's AAAA champion in 2006 and 2007, will play Booker T. Washington of Miami in a game Sept. 5 or Sept. 6, Northside coach Conrad Nix confirmed Thursday. Game promoters are working to have the game televised on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

"The most exciting part of it is the recognition of the success you've had," said Nix, whose teams are 30-0 the past two seasons. "You're being recognized as a quality program outside of Georgia or just our middle Georgia area."
Aside from its winning tradition, Northside features a pair of high-profile recruits — defensive tackle Abry Jones (who has committed to Georgia) and linebacker Eric Fields (who lists Clemson as his favorite).
Nix said the game with Washington was one of several offers that Northside has received from out-of-state promoters since January. Washington finished 14-0 last season and has advanced to the AAAA semifinals five straight seasons.
"It's happened in the past, but not to this magnitude," Nix said. "We've had people from Chicago to Texas to North Carolina. The National Football Foundation really wanted us to play a team in Texas over Labor Day weekend."
But Northside already had a game Aug. 30. Georgia's AA champion, Buford, is going to Dallas instead to play a team in Texas Stadium in Dallas.
Northside, which is 123-12 the past 10 seasons, last played an out-of-state opponent in 1996 and 1997, when it lost home games to R.E. Lee of Alabama.
Northside will be the second Georgia team to play another state's champion in 2008.
On Aug. 29, North Gwinnett will play at home against South Carolina's AAAA champion, Byrnes of Duncan. Byrnes has won five state titles in the past six seasons.
On Sept. 6, Georgia coastal power Camden County will travel to Hoover, Ala., to play a team that has won five Alabama state titles since 2000 and was runner-up in 2007.

Someone is not keeping up with 5-A. Camden have beaten many of the top high school programs in the state. We never lost in the Classic. We won big games last year. However, I'm pulling for all the home state teams. Go GA!

how can you call camden county a 'powwer' when all their region games are against AAA and AAAA schools that are playing up in their region. camden county should not be ranked no matter what their record as long a they are only playing smaller schools. they or only about .500 when playing other true AAAAA sized schools over the last number of years. doesn't sounds like a power to me

this is great exposure for both programs. High school football is reaching new heights. The quality of these two programs demostrate just that. I plan on being there, sporting my blue & orange. Tradition never graduates. Talent and desire will be on display. Go big BLUE!!!!!!!!
