How long he’s kept it off: “I started March 3, 2009, and eight weeks later I was 168 pounds,” St. Cyr said.
Personal life: “I joined the Army 24 years ago. After a deployment to Kosovo, two deployments to Iraq and getting ready to redeploy to Afghanistan, I was offered a position as chief food service management at Fort McPherson last year,” he said. “[I’ve been] married to my wonderful wife, Diana, for the last 26 years.” They have two children, a son, Joshua, 24, and a daughter, Rebekah, 11, and a 4-month-old grandson, David. St. Cyr and his family live in Peachtree City.
Turning point: “With my new position, I average one week a month on the road, and I had developed some bad eating habits. I stopped working out as much, and [with] my weak spot for a good burger and fries along with a cold beer — I put on a lot of weight.” With his blood pressure reaching 140 over 95, he decided to join a fitness contest at World Gym Fitness Centers in Peachtree City.
Diet plan: “No special diet plan, just 1,700 calories a day,” he said. Breakfast is oatmeal with black coffee. Lunch is a turkey or tuna sandwich. He snacks on almonds or fruit. Dinner is either a chicken breast, salmon or red snapper with veggies.
Exercise routine: “I would run at least five mornings per week no less than 30 minutes. I would swim four times per week at lunch time. Three times per week in the evenings, I would do some type of weight training.”
Biggest challenge: “When I was on the road traveling [to keep] up with my workouts and eating healthy.”
How life has changed: He won the contest and gained a free year’s membership. His blood pressure has dropped to 117 over 72. His family was his greatest motivation: “I was going to do everything I could to ensure I was going to be around as long as I can.”
