Jolita Dorsett Wainwright recently received the 2009 President's Volunteer Service Award for her community work.
Wainwright is a senior research coordinator at Morehouse School of Medicine's Clinical Research Center.
Ten years ago, she founded SRT (Service, Respect and Training) Inc., which works with churches, schools and other organizations to support senior citizens and the homeless. The organization awards scholarships for high school volunteers.
SRT also operates the Otis Smith Health Initiative with the help of volunteer physicians and nurses. The initiative provides free health clinic for the homeless and the uninsured.
The award is given by President Barack Obama's Council on Service and Civic Participation and is presented in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Services and the USA Freedom Corps.
