Many people have been successful sending e-mails to the addresses on airline sites, so give that a try.
But what if the airline is not flying into that area right now? You should be able to get your money back.
If the airline is still flying there, but you don't want to go now, usually you can get your money back, as well.
And if the airline is turning you away, work the phones and get names of everyone you speak to. Also, if you're nearing departure date, and you still haven't been able to get the money, dispute the charge on your credit card.
What about hotels? Hotels are much easier to cancel, especially if you've paid by credit card. Just make sure you cancel it by the required date. If you have a junket trip, you have to contact the vacation planner and ensure a reimbursement.
And if you booked on Hotwire or Priceline, the companies are admittedly having a tough time getting in touch with people. But Clark has heard one case in which Priceline refunded money to the customer.
If you have more questions, go to onetravel.com. Always get the name of the person you're speaking with, along with the date and time.
But in this circumstance it shouldn't be difficult to get a reimbursement.
The only people who may experience a hassle are frequent flyer travelers. These people may be paying a large amount of fees, as airlines are feeing frequent flyers heavily these days.
But there is no standardized procedure in the industry. Each airline and travel supplier has its own policies. Do your homework and get familiar with them.
