The middle of the afternoon leads many of us to the vending machine for a little pick-me-up. Snacking on protein is a great way to satisfy your appetite. At 4 grams of protein and 110 calories per bar, Special K may have found a way to stave off hunger until dinner.

Special K should stick to what they do best, which is produce cereal. The protein water I tasted was called the Lemon Twist. I poured it in the glass with ice and it looked just like Gatorade. I was really excited to taste this water. I put it to my lips, and my eyes started burning. The water had a strong smell of lemon juice and lemon Windex. The taste of the water is just as bad. The aftertaste was bitter and hard to get rid of. I would rather drink regular tap water for the rest of my life than try this again.

I tried the Special K Protein Water in the Strawberry Kiwi flavor. First, this is not water. Elementary school science class taught me H2O equals water. This product is bad fruit punch filled with natural and artificial flavors. If you do not like saccharin, this product delivers a powerful aftertaste full of it. I visited Special K’s Web site, and it states this is a “delicious weight management drink”. My response to Special K: delicious, no. Weight management, maybe; I lost my appetite for anything else.

Special K Protein Water sounds like a great idea, but this product is more of a miss than a hit. I tried the Strawberry Kiwi flavor and found it to have a very strong artificial sweetener aftertaste that was very overpowering. When I looked at the label, I found that the bottle contains 50 calories, which is a little steep for me.
While I like the idea of getting an extra boost of protein while I stay hydrated, I would rather eat my calories than drink them. This drink would be great to use during a long workout, but for just regular drinking the calories outweigh the taste.

Chocolate bars, high in protein, low in fat — Special K had me at CHOCOLATE. When I tell you I was excited to taste these bars, I mean I barely had time to move my fingers before I bit into it. I quickly came to realize that biting my own finger may not have been such a bad idea after all. Special K has managed to zap out all the tasty perfection that is chocolate — UGH! Don’t get me started about the nasty aftertaste. It truly was my intent to eat another bar, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities about these bars beyond the packaging.
