Mast Cells Linked to Allergic Diarrhea THURSDAY, Dec. 4 (HealthDayNews) -- Mast cells may be a factor in diarrhea caused by food allergies, says a study in the Dec. 4 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation. While it is known that exposure to food allergens is often associated with diarrhea, there is limited knowledge about the cell types and mediators that cause food allergy-related diarrhea. In research with mice, researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center found that depletion of mast cells blocked allergic diarrhea.
