Fulton County residents could soon be paying more in property taxes.
School board members voted Tuesday to take on a handful of capital construction and improvement projects, totaling $27 million, and to enact less than a full rollback of the millage rate. Exact figures on the proposed increase are still being developed.

The projects that would be funded include accelerating the building of a proposed elementary school on Ison Road in Sandy Springs and a new performing arts wing for Tri-Cities High in East Point.
Cindy Loe, superintendent of schools, proposed the plan that passed 5-2.
Board members Linda Schultz and Ashley Widner, who voted against the measure, publicly opposed the proposed tax hike, not the worthiness of the projects.
"I just cannot in good conscience vote for raising taxes on families right now," Widner said during the meeting.
Under Georgia's Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the school board must conduct at least three public hearings, with advance notice in the newspaper, when the millage rate is increased or there will be an indirect tax increase because the rate is not lowered, said Glenn Brock, the board's attorney. An indirect tax increase can occur when the fair market value of property increases and assessed values rise.
Dates for the hearings have not been announced yet.
