SUCCESS STORY
Georgia Cain loses 83 pounds• Former weight: 216 pounds
• Current weight: 133 pounds
• Weight lost: 83
• Height: 5 feet 4 inches
• How long she's kept it off: Cain started Weight Watchers on Jan. 25, 2006, and met her goal Oct. 10, 2006. She has kept the weight off for 15 months.
• Personal life: Cain is a part-owner in a family-operated auto salvage business in Austell. She lives in Powder Springs with her two daughters, Sarah and Emily.
• Turning point: " I had already decided I would always be overweight, and despite any amount of diet and exercise it would never help," says Cain. But one day she drove past a Weight Watchers location and decided to stop.
"I thought to myself, 'I'll try it for a while, without anyone knowing, to see what happens.' After two weeks, I was hooked on the program. I saw real results just by following the plan."
• Diet plan: Cain follows the Weight Watchers flex points plan. A typical day is a protein bar for breakfast. "Something quick, because everyone must eat breakfast," she says.
She has a low-calorie frozen meal for lunch and an afternoon snack of either cottage cheese or yogurt. "My favorite dinner is chicken breast on the George Foreman grill with lots of seasoning and plenty of veggies," she says.
• Exercise routine: "I love to power walk," she says. She does it two to three times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. She fits it in "any other chance I get, even if it is to and from my car in a parking lot."
• Biggest challenge: "My biggest challenge is myself — I still feel overweight," she says. "I like my current weight and have to remind myself to maintain."
• Munchie antidote: "What I like the most is the 100-calorie pack Nutter Butter or Oreo cookies," she says.
"There is just enough in the pack to satisfy me and end that sweet, crunchy craving."
• Secret to success: "This is a way of life for me — not a diet," she says. "I have lots of support from my family, friends and other Weight Watchers members. I still attend weekly meetings and have learned to put the fork down and start moving more." She also stays mindful of the serenity prayer.
• How life has changed: "People that have not seen me in a while do not recognize me, and they cannot believe it," she says. "Even sometimes I have to do a double-take [when I see] my reflection in store windows. It still amazes me every day that I was able to accomplish this. I know that I can still live a regular life with food and not be out of control."
