Chick-fil-A named "healthiest chain" restaurant, book says

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 08/04/08

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has been named "America's Healthiest Chain Restaurant," according to a new book that studied nutritional information at major food chains.

The results, released this month, are part of the book "Eat this, Not that! For Kids," authored by Men's Health editors David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding.

A rundown of the results also can be found at www.eatthis.com/restaurants, a section of the Men's Health Web site.

The book gives Chick-fil-a an "A" grade, citing its chicken nuggets — which it termed "the country's healthiest" — and variety of side items such as the fruit cup and soup.

"Chick-fil-A excels in every category we tested for," the study said. It did suggest limiting orders of Chick-fil-A salads with ranch or Caesar dressings, any sandwich with bacon and milkshakes.

with so many children having the peanut allergy, why does a family business like Chic-fil-A, continue to use peanut oil in their recipes?

Hey Cindy, if you can't bring yourself to eat chicken, there are always some nice shrubs, grass and trees at Chic Filet restaurants landscaping. Leave the rest of us Normal people alone.

To the best of my knowledge, using hormones in poultry is illegal and is not something that is done in the US.

Healthy? According to their ingredients lists, there is not one piece of chicken that comes out of there that hasn't been soaked or battered or soaked and battered in MSG solutions. Then they use frying oil that has a petroleum based preservative called TBHQ in it when there are oils available with natural preservatives. What is a body, or more specifically, a child's body supposed to do with MSG & TBHQ? Healthy? I think not!

Healthy? What a joke! The only thing we know of at Chik-Fil-A that isn't loaded with artificial colors, flavors, sweetners, or fried in the preservative laden peanut oil, is the sugar-sweetened lemonade (which is truly delicious and somewhat healthy!). The salad and cole slaw might be OK, but we will not be eating there until they get the preservatives out of their oil.

"stonoguy"--Part of Cindy's point had to do with the filth that chickens are confined in, combined with the hormones they're injected with, and yes, they should be handled humanely. All animals should.

The blogger who said that people who defend abortion and simultaneously champion for animals' rights were hypocrites was accurate.

I'm Pro-Life. Therefore, I'm not inconsistent. Animals should be handled humanely while alive.

Chick-Fil-A is hypocritical. I commend their being closed on Sundays, but then what do they do? They have an ad campaign making light of cows being slaughtered. I contacted them via their website and told them what I thought about this hypocrisy. I was thanked for my comments and got a slight implication that they very well might change their approach, but that was a year ago, to no change.

I could do without their blamed cow at Turner Field, too.

The only thing I can have at this restaurant is the lemonaide. Every single fried thing has TBHQ, a petroleum-based preservative. The non-fried foods all have either artificial flavor, artificial color, or more petroleum-based preservatives. Healthy? I think not.
