Parents, immunization requirements are on the way

Ouch, it's that time of year again.

North Georgia Health District officials are sending back-to-school reminders of immunization requirements. It includes children in day care.

For ages 5 and under, the PCV vaccine is required for children attending child care facilities, Head Start or pre-kindergarten programs. Also, Hepatitis A vaccine or laboratory proof of immunity is needed for students born on or after Jan. 1, 2006.

For older kids, additional doses are required.

Kindergartners, sixth graders and newcomers to Georgia schools in grades K-12 also need to have had two doses of measles and mumps vaccines, one dose of rubella vaccine or laboratory proof of immunity against measles, mumps, or rubella.

Add to the list two doses of chicken pox vaccine, or documentation of the disease or proof of immunity.
