The proposal brought mixed results at a North Fulton Municipal Association meeting on Thursday.

The chamber tries to recruit businesses, but chamber president Brandon Beach said its efforts to recruit businesses are being out-gunned by the competing organizations in Gwinnett, Cobb, and city of Atlanta.

Chamber officials said, ideally, they need $150,000. City contributions to the chamber would range up to $40,000.

While Fulton County has an economic development department, chamber officials argue they can be more effective by focusing exclusively on Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Roswell, Alpharetta and Mountain Park.

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos balked at the idea because Sandy Springs already has a chamber of commerce of its own. Roswell Mayor Jere Wood also hesitated until he could look at the city's budget to see if it could afford the extra expense.
