No, Georgia Tech has not added a surprise recruit.
But the Jackets will have a 6-6, 350-pound plus “offensive lineman” at spring practice who’s not on the roster.
He’s actor Quenton Aaron, and he’s prepping to play the lead role in the movie “The Blind Side,” based on Michael Lewis’ best-seller about Ole Miss lineman Michael Oher.
“The Blind Side” describes Oher’s journey from homeless teen to bigtime football prospect. Oher is projected as a first-round pick in next month’s NFL draft.
According to Variety, Sandra Bullock will play the matriarch of the conservative, well-to-do household that Oher joins. Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment will produce the movie, and John Lee Hancock (“The Rookie”) will direct, Variety reported.
Tech officials said Aaron has been training with strength and conditioning coordinator Eric Ciano and consulting with defensive end Michael Johnson’s nutritionist.
Starting Monday, he’ll be on the field with the team. But Aaron’s participation will be limited to some non-contact agility drills.
He never played college football and simply wants to get a feel for it.
Practice starts Monday at 3:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
