Georgia Tech is down to eight scholarship players, at least for its first seven games.

Senior guard Lewis Clinch has been declared academically ineligible for the fall semester, which ends Dec. 12. The Jackets earlier lost senior wing D’Andre Bell for the season because of a congenital spinal condition.

Clinch had been looking good in practice and was hoping to rebound from a junior season in which he shot 39.8 percent from the field while averaging 9.0 points. He had a chance to start and was clearly among Tech’s top six players.

Now Lance Storrs, a 6-foot-5 sophomore who averaged seven minutes a game last season, can expect a more significant role.

Meanwhile, Tech recently added a fifth walk-on, 6-5 forward Sam Shew of Decatur, to the roster.

The Jackets host Winston-Salem State at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the season opener.
