  • A large hotel in the middle of the mountains of Colorado was one of the stars of the classic book, turned horror flick, The Shining.
  • As the legend goes, Stephen King went to the Stanley Hotel, and were the only guests in the building.
  • It was scheduled to be closed for the winter the next day and he took a walk through the

  • After checking in, glide up the staircase to the inner sanctum of the hotel Stanley.

  • The lobby at night has an air of otherworldliness. Do you dare to step foot in there when the lights are out?

  • Room 217 was supposedly the room that Stephen King and his wife stayed in back in the 70's. It's the same room where the bones of The Shining started to come together.
  • A ghostly apparition? Or a trick of photography, in a low-light situation? One may never know in one of the most haunted hotels in the country.
  • The music room where Mrs. Stanley would entertain guests with music by one of her friends, John Philip Sousa.
  • This may be the piano Flora Stanley, who loved to play music, may have played to entertain her guests. It could even play a tune, by unseen hands, to this day.
  • While The Shining is the most popular movies connected to The Stanley hotel...
  • ...Dumb and Dumber was also on site as The Stanley was re-named The Danbury Hotel.
  • F.O. Stanley designed and built The Stanley Hotel in 1909. He was also the inventor and builder of the Stanley Steamer automobile. Stanley and his brother came up with the Steamer after selling their photographic plate business to Eastman Kodak. It's rumored that F.O. and his wife Flora still roam the halls of their hotel.
  • A mountain view draws you into the stories and legends of this historic hotel.
