A large hotel in the middle of the mountains of Colorado was one of the stars of the classic book, turned horror flick, The Shining. As the legend goes, Stephen King went to the Stanley Hotel, and were the only guests in the building. It was scheduled to be closed for the winter the next day and he took a walk through the "empty" hallways of the grand hotel. That walk inspired him to write about a winter caretaker who slowly went mad in the abandoned for the season majestic hotel who had REDRUM or murder on his mind.
