Recent rain has perked up local produce. Squash, eggplant, cucumbers and tomatoes are peaking at farmers markets. With a glut of tomatoes, look for lots of deals.

This is the peak season for Alaskan wild halibut and several varieties of fresh, wild salmon: sockeye, king and silverbrite.

Local farmers markets are offering yellow and wax beans, haricots verts, bicolor sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, red torpedo onions, fingerling potatoes, zucchini and sunburst summer squash, white eggplant, sweet and hot banana peppers, okra, arugula and a fleshy, summer spinach called Malabar.
