After the Virginia game, David Cutcliffe has a simple insight into his team: it’s better than last year’s.
“We’re a better team. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. We’re a better football team than we were a year ago. Part of being a better team is we have to be able to handle what comes our way. We are making more plays at critical times, which is certainly a huge and significant improvement.”
That’s increasingly hard to argue with. Duke took a solid whipping from Georgia Tech but otherwise is just a few plays against Pitt from being 6-1. It’s turned into a tough, smart and aggressive football team. There are plenty of places where it could still improve, but big deal. This team is light years away from what it was when Cutcliffe took over.
