's "Last Train to Memphis
" introduces country music fans to the New Mexico-born, Georgia-raised crooner with an emotional bang. The tune not only showcases his smooth, country-to-the-core vocals, but also his flair for telling a story through a catchy tune.
"Every time I sit down to write a song, the process is different. I don't have a set way or method, so every song has a different story behind it," Jared tells The Boot. "I sat down to write with Nick Sturms and Jeremy McComb one day and Nick was telling us about a book he was reading called 'Last Train to Memphis' by an author named Peter Guralnick. The book really focuses on the early part of Elvis
' career and the passion he had for life, his family and his music -- the stuff no one talks about anymore. I said to the other guys, 'That's our song! Let's write a song about a guy's passion for a girl and how he'll do anything to get her back. Heck, while we're at it, let's borrow his title, too!'"
