No More Mizrahi at Target

Designer Isaac Mizrahi is leaving Target which has carried his brand since 2003.

Five years after launching his hugely successful run at Target, Isaac Mizrahi is moving on.

By the end of the year, the Mizrahi section at the discount retailer will be phased out. Mizrahi is leaving to serve as creative director of women’s apparel for the Liz Claiborne brand.

Mizrahi’s line at Target helped make him a household name and the label has been very successful for the discount retailer.

Are you sad to see Mizrahi go?

This is news? Who really cares?

He wasn’t that great anyway. Everything he did just made it cost more because his dumb name was on it. Liz Claiborne makes old lady clothing, good luck shaking that image Issac.

I AM sad. I DO care. Do you remember what was available at one-stop-shop stores before him? Nothing. Nothing good. Target is now an easy and reasonable place to shop for stylish clothes. They may not be the absolute best quality, but they’re just as good as most of the “specialty” shops; they last and wear well. I’m sorry to see him go. I hope Target can keep it up without him.

His clothing wasn’t worth the higher price anyway. Target had cute, inexpensive clothes before him I’m sure they’ll continue to after him.

Well DAYUM!! Sad? Can you say beyond sad. As a single parent on a budget (daughter has daycare and activities)I’ve fallen in love with Target. I get more points on my Target Visa than any other card. It’s not Express, Baby Phat, or XOXO but I can’t afford them either. I’m really glad Steve & Barry’s just opened! I hope Target finds a suitable replacement.

I wish Isaac luck in anything he does. I don’t buy his stuff, but did enjoy his moment on The Apprentice, when he stared down that silly girl who thought that with a name like “Isaac Mizrahi,” he couldn’t possibly understand English, and spoke to him in a condescending, childish voice! Hee hee!!

His clothes were ugly.

The quality is bad and the look is really not anything like his couture look. His line helped establish Target as a place to get cheap cute stuff, otherwise, I would have never noticed Target as having ok clothes. The other designers that Target markets on a rolling basis have better stuff. Their house brands, Exhileration and Mossimo are better made and have esp. cute summer items. I agree with the previous blogger, Liz Claiborne is old lady clothing. Hopefully, Isaac will interject some youth into their line. There are alot of us 40 years olds who won’t go near the Liz Clairborne department. I look forward to seeing his influence. Please Target, bring Marc Jacobs onboard with a budget line. Michael Kors has already established a moderate priced line and am an avid fan.

Thanks to j and KLK for calling me an old lady! - I love Liz’s classic clothing for work especially. Can’t afford it, tho. Anyway, to me it’s a non-issue b/c I don’t buy many clothes at Target. But I did think Isaac’s were cute.

Call me an old lady too. I’ve been wearing Liz as long as I can remember. And it isn’t pricey when it’s on sale at Macy’s. Liked looking at Isaac’s line at Target but never bought anything so I’m not sad.

As much as I love Isaac Mizrahi and it blows Wal-Mart out of the water, none of his Target stuff fit me anyway. Some of it does fit my 11 year old niece.

His handbags are just too cute.

For those of you who have no fashion sense, no wonder you think IM clothes are ugly. I’m guessing you are a frequent Wal Mart shopper. Isaac’s Target line is FABULOUS! Very stylish and very well made. I am so disappointed to see him go. It’s a loss for those of us who are stylish as well as Target.

Issac’s clothes are much better made than Mossimo, which is just plain crappy. A discerning shopper will look at the hems on pants and the stitching on a t-shirt. Mossimo’s t-shirts have jagged, sloppy stitching. No better than Kmart.

DANG- I thought he brought Target clothing up a notch, if for no other reason than rebranding their apparel image. However, Target is leveraging other designers now-a-days (cute stuff too), so I guess it’s not so bad. Best of luck to him as he moves on…

oh man, I had a ball buying his stuff for work. I could pull off a fairly trendy look without breaking the bank.

I’m bummed!!!!

I’m laughing so hard right now that a Target shopper would dare use “Walmart shopper” as an insult.

Half my wardrobe is from Target, but I think the elitist attitude is hilarious. Target clothes, no matter how cute, will never be high fashion.

The discussion here is about IM leaving Target. Take it from this Saks shopper, the Target quality was an insult to his regular line. And boy, do I know quality: IM is no better made that Mossimo or other Target brands. Oh, those plastic shoes! He helped bring the Target brand in front of us fashion conscious ladies, or at least it got me into Target. I have returned several IM items b/c of poor quality and have a few things that held up. Some of it looks great until you launder it. Because of IM, I took notice of Target and look forward to seeing what they have next. Target surprises me often with cute things, fair quality at a cheap price. Did not mean to insult the Liz customers, but will say again, this brand is homely. Guess it has nothing to do with age :) I have tried to go thru the racks (I am 46) and walk away each time. IM will be an asset to Liz and look forward to future seasons. Maybe I will change my mind on Liz. I am always at Target for groceries, etc. and look forward to peeking at the clothing.
