A Fragrance Wardrobe

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor Possibilities, $42 for 1.7 oz.

About 800 new fragrances were launched this year and everyone it seems is getting into the game.

Celebrities including Usher and Mariah Carey released debut scents this fall, as did stores such as Ann Taylor.

Some experts believe everyone should have a fragrance wardrobe, as in not just one signature scent, but many different ones that you change when your mood changes.

How many fragrances do you own?

What new scents do you love?

I have used Pleasures for years and sometimes used Pleasures Intense (or something like that), it’s smells great or I guess it does as I get a lot of compliments from friends and strangers about the fragrance.

I have several, I’m a perfume fanatic. My favorites are Angel & Alien, both by Thierry Mulger. I always get compliments wearing these.

I have about 5 fragrances. I only use 2. I use to be into the scented Lotions from Victoria Secret and Bath & Body Works. But I got frustrated when they would discontinue the scents. I really like Body and Pink by Victoria Secret.

Beyond Paradise. I love it and get lots of compliments on it…even from stangers, women and men alike. Plus, my husband really likes it, too.

For everyday use, I love Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath & Body Works. When I get a bit dressed up, I wear Allure by Chanel.

Fragrance gets very annoying very fast to a lot of people. Far too many people are either too accustomed to their preferred scents or have faulty senses of smell. Everywhere I go, I’m assaulted by waves of fumes that are nearly as bad as foul BO. And if I dare suggest that perhaps a scent is a bit strong, I get attacked for it (as a co-worker did recently). Why are people so over-the-top defensive of their perfumes?

This isn’t to say I never wear a scent myself. I have one bottle of a light vanilla cologne that I wear sometimes. In today’s society, though, where daily bathing is the norm, daily fragrance is simply unnecessary, and very often overbearing.

If nothing else, lighten up, people!!

I wear Michael Kors. I usually limit myself to one signature fragrance at a time…..saves money on the dry cleaning.

I love light citrus/green scents. Over the years, I’ve gotten good feedback from some of the following: LimeBasil & Mandarin by Jo Malone, L’Eau de Issey by Issey Miyake, Lemon Sugar by Sugar. There are many more, but it takes time to really get to know a fragrance and how it complements your style or not. For example, rose scents tend to smell quite awful on me, but suit my mom.

But a really good rule of thumb, however, is to apply whatever you’re going to wear about 30-40 minutes BEFORE you walk out the door. Pulse points are effective for light scents and walking through a mist is adequate for heavier ones.

My all time favorite is a cheap fragrance my grandmother used to buy for me when I was a teenager, Sand & Sable. I also like Curve, Candies, and Baby Phat.

Curve Wave, Very Sexy Too by Victoria Secret, Contradiction by Calvin Klein, and Eternity Moment by Calvin Klein for now. Perfumes and lotions are my girly vice..
