Simply Vera Shrinks

Talk about going to extremes.

Women’s Wear Daily reports that the folks behind the Simply Vera by Vera Wang collection at Kohl’s, which debuted this fall, miscalculated.

The clothing apparently skewed too large, so the new collection will have smaller sizes.

Middle America definitely isn’t getting thinner, so what’s the deal?

Are pin thin ladies the only ones interested in wearing moderately priced Vera Wang?

Just because someone can’t fit into incorrectly sized clothes doesn’t mean she’s “pin thin.”

Sounds like the Vera line was a case of vanity sizing gone awry. I’m sure lots of ladies here know what I’m talking about — especially the smaller ones. I’m 5’1” and average weight. I used to comfortably wear a size 2 or 4 in pants. I used to fit into size S shirts. I used to be able to find things that fit at most mall stores. But these days I’m finding myself increasingly sized out. I know I haven’t shrunk, and my weight has stayed fairly constant… so why do I find myself swimming in size S shirts and size 2 pants and skirts? At The Limited a couple weeks ago, the smallest size pants (0S - zero short!) went several inches past my feet. I’ve been relegated to petite departments and teen stores almost exclusively now. But I can’t exactly wear Forever 21 clothes to the office.

I’m not stick thin — I’m just short!

A clothing size isn’t a reward or an entitlement. It’s just a number. I know there’s some consumer psychology at work here — like, if you increase the number of women who wear, say, between size 0 and 6, they’ll enjoy the clothes shopping process more and therefore buy more stuff.

Me, I hardly go shopping anymore. It’s just too frustrating. I wish women’s clothes were sized like men’s clothes. Just give me the inseam and waist measurements, please!
