McLuxury

In need of a Prada handbag? Head to BJ’s in East Point where you can score one for $220.

Dana Thomas, Author of “Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster,” isn’t surprised. Prada, a company that has attempted to go public in the past, is dependent on broad appeal.

It “leads them to just sell whatever has been made at cost or below cost,” said Thomas, who is in town today at Booksmith in Decatur.

Thomas said she wrote her book with the goal of informing people that luxury goods are no longer being made by Gepetto in the back of the shop. “I didn’t want to dissuade people from buying luxury goods. I just wanted them to know what they are buying,” Thomas said.

Are you obsessed with luxury at any cost, or have you figured out a savvy way to get high-end items for less?
