Department Store Satisfaction
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A study released today from J.D. Power and Associates surveyed customer satisfaction with department stores in three major metropolitan areas including Atlanta.
Where do we shop with satisfaction?
Atlanta shoppers ranked Nordstrom highest among upscale department stores, while Kohl’s ranked highest among midscale department stores.
What is your favorite department store in the Atlanta area and why?

Home Depot…..because of the alone time I get there. I can shop and shop all by myself. Never…Never…will a sales associate approach you.

I like the customer service at Kohl’s. They donn’t hassle you, but if you need something, they are there..Fred, you are right on the mark about Home Depot.

JC Penney! Great prices -there is always a sale going on - helpful sales associates, and good selection of items to shop for.

It IS nice to walk around Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. You can get your exercise without being stopped. But I wouldn’t want to wait in line at the register.

Bob - at least you see a line. At Macy’s at Gwinnett Place or Mall of GA, I can never find a register that is even open. So theoretically - they never have a line!
Ace Hardware and Nordstrom seem to be the lone holdouts for customer service.

For good customer service, never go to Marshall’s in Douglasville..If someone is really p** with me, I just look at them & say, don’t get paid for your personality(sp) now do you?

I miss Parisian :-(
When it comes to service, however, nothing tops Nordstroms :o)
Dillards keeps me happy, too!

I never find a sales person at Macy’s at a register, and I never find my size!!!! All I find are fat people clothes.
Also…I know Macy’s is trying to “upbrand” but seriously….what happened to clothes for normal people? I don’t want to buy work clothes with sequins!

I agree with Perkle about JC Penney.

You guys are dead on about Home Depot… If you do see an employee sometimes they see you and go scurrying away. Walmart is fun too. I like to see how many associates I have to ask for help before I find one that speaks English AND will do more than point in a general direction.

One word: Target. Good quality merchandise at rock-bottom prices. You can keep your high-end department stores. I’m getting more for my money at Target.

Ooo Ooo! Nordstrom and Bloomingdales!! Nordstrom is WONDERFUL! I ALWAYS get fabulous service, especially in the shoe departments. They never pressure you to buy anything and seem happy that you are there. But I happily buy all the time because they don’t sell junk. Macy’s sells junk. I am tired of mass-produced crap that doesn’t fit me. I will gladly spend more money on better fitting clothes and longer lasting. I can go into Bloomie’s or Nordstrom’s and find 3 pairs of shoes that fit and are comfortable. I can’t find one at Macy’s. Because they sell crap!

Nordstoms. You will get top service. When’s the last time you were actually seated and fitted for a pair of shoes by a salesperson?! They even ask questions and find shoes that may meet your needs. Wow! The service in other departments is equal but I love shoes and Nordstroms give me the best service of any store.
Macy’s, your service in the shoe department is ridiculous! If I were paying $10 for a pair of shoes I’d expect no service, but at your prices, it should be a lot better.
Home Depot is horrible! What happened?
Love JCPenney though!

You all were dead-on regarding the lack of customer service at Home Depot. I don’t think I have EVER been helped at that store. I only go there when I know I can find what I need on my own. One time, a lady in the department that sells custom exterior doors, looked at me like I had broken into the store. Never asked me once if I needed help. I even asked her a question and she answered it in five words and never asked if I needed further assistance.

Parisian? I miss Rich’s. Just when I was willing to forgive Macy’s for taking away a high-quality Atlanta institution, they took away Marshall Field’s.
Nordstrom is great, and Belk at Phipps has been holding up the level of service expected by Parisian customers. They’ve also got great sales - I bought $88 Joseph Abboud corduroys for $4.98!
Macy’s pushed out most of their good sales staff and brough in college-age kids who are paid so little that they think they’re there to chat with their friends. Their store brands are junk and they give you coupons every other day that aren’t good on anything decent. Their prices are too high for what you get. They don’t care about the emotional side of shopping, the feeling of satisfaction and respect you get shopping somewhere nice. They want Nordstrom prices on Penney’s merchandise with Home Depot service.

I live in the Chicago suburbs and I don’t mind Home Depot not having help on the floor because I’m an architect in the construction industry. Most of the time I know more then the help there. If you’re one that needs help in a home improvement store, go to Menard’s or Lowe’s. It’s much better there.
I won’t shop Macy’s since they took away the Marshall Field name, service and quality. I cut through Macy’s every once in a while just to witness how pitiful it really has become. There’s no way Macy’s will last. There are too many better places to shop. Target and is great! Kohls and Carson’s aren’t bad. And there’s always JCPenny and Sears. But Macy’s, come on. Never.
By the way, for those of who commenting on Bloomingdale’s - It’s owned by Macy’s. I fully support the boycott of Macy’s for what they did to Marshall Fields. The boycott includes Bloomingdale’s.

Yes, the Belk at Phipps is nice, but I will ALWAYS miss Rich’s. Macy’s is no replacement: junky stores, poor service, lack of quality merchandise. Rich’s was a class act; Macy’s, yuck!

I went with my daughter to Harold’s (at Lenox?) recently. It was my second trip and the service there was stellar both times. The young man who helped my daughter was kind and attentive as were the young women who also worked there. I actually enjoyed the wait while she tried on clothes.
