The Jeans Thing
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In the never-ending search for the perfect pair of jeans, I’ve visited yet another website that promises to get you in the right denim for your body.
Truejeans.com uses your measurements (yes, you have to do some work) and style preferences to match you with the perfect pair of denim jeans (including premium brands).
The site, for men and women, also tells you what size you need and whether you need to have the jeans hemmed.
See what you think, then take your mildly worn old jeans to Sandpiper’s annual denim swap for 10 percent off a new pair. Swap ends on Saturday

I am a woman with curves (not a big girl)…not stick straight. My waist is not the same size as my hips. That is how most jeans are made. To a woman who’s waist is a 26 and her hips are a 39 or 40…the average jeans do not fit well at all. I tend to stick with low rider jeans with stretch such as Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, etc…To find jeans that fit perfectly is not an eay task so when I do…I buy 2 pairs. Or if they come in different shades, I buy all shades. To the jean designers….the flat butt box shaped jeans are not the move! Add that 2% spandex and shrink the waist and you’ve got yourself a winner!

The only brand of jeans that have fit me thus far are AG jeans’ Gemini fit. I have curves too (size 8) and these are the only jeans that have fit me. However, I’m still looking for more brands.

Will you look at the distance between that girls belly button and her crotch? Even when I had a six pack stomach I didn’t have that much real estate between my cooch and the knot that tied it on! If I put on her jeans back in my thin days the waist band would probably come just below my belly hole…
Geez….models…
However, whoever got the idea of putting 2% spandex in jeans deserves some sort of humanitarian award. The best thing that ever happened to a bubble butt….

I agree whoever got the idea of putting 2% or more of spandex should get a metal. Most of the jeans makers have stopped putting spandex in jeans

Levi Strauss, which you can buy at Target, still puts it in. They’re not real long-lasting jeans, though. I’ve had two pair develop a run in them, like panty hose, and just rip wide open, after about a year.
I think they’re still out there, just not designer….
My favorite jeans come from Target….because of the Spandex (I think the Target brand puts it in, too…).

Just like most of they male population of world doesn’t look good in speedo’s and some of the stuff men wear, ladies take a really good hard long look at yourselves in a full length mirror before you go out in public wearing some of the new style jeans some of you wear. I see women of all ages wearing the really low jeans that the designer for sure didn’t have them in mind when they designed them. Just because you can afford them and buttom them up, does not mean they look good on you. You don’t have to walk behind you, you are spared that sight. Also, unless you have a flat, firm tummy, never and never is a long time, never wear a top that doesn’t go to the jeans. The simi-anorexic wannabe Hollywood types may look half-decent in these jeans after six months of starvation, but full size women should avoid them. Just beause they are stylish doesn’t mean it’s your style. Find what works for your body type, not what is hot and in style.

I do agree Observer..if you got cheechos (love handles) you should not wear low riders. If you have more rolls than the Pillsbury Dough Boy…again DO NOT WEAR LOW RIDERS! Please spare the eyes of the innocent! But high waist jeans are any enemy as well. If you have a belly with those on…you will look like a Soccer Mom gone wrong! They make your but look wide and flat. Do not do small pockets if you have a flat butt…it makes it look even flatter.

This is fine if you aren’t above a size 10 on any part of your lower body. If you have some junk in your trunk forget it.
Mind the gap means something entirely different here!!!!

Ladies who are tall with long legs but a short waist: Express and Limited have great jeans! I have trouble finding jeans that are long enough but are still short in the waist. (I end up with jeans that have too much room in the crotch) I have bought several pairs of the “low rider” long length jeans at these stores and they come up just below my waist but are plenty long enough.

Misty,
Where do you find PZI jeans? I’ve been on the hunt. I was told you could find them at Macy’s but the only ones I found fit just like everything else. (I have 28” waist and 40” hips)I afraid to order from the PZI website because if they don’t fit, I’ll either have to send back or pay to have them altered.

Tonya, Macy’s carries PZI Jeans in Atlanta (South Dekalb Mall). They do fit rather well but prepare to spend $70 for them.

I’m a little more thick in the waist than the hips, so I sometimes have problems with jeans. But when I do wear jeans(this is the south after all) I wear Levi’s with stretch..

Tanya, I have ordered from the website…I also have found them in Macy’s @ Greenbriar and Lenox. If you go on the website you can get a list of local retailers.
Good Luck!

I love Express jeans. They come in long, too, so I don’t have get the regular size that will be too short once I wash them. If you’ve got an ample badonkadonk, Target jeans are NOT for you. In fact, I hate the way Target jeans look on anybody.

Another one to try for curvy girls: Joe’s Jeans in the “Honey” fit but they are pricey - prepare to spend $120-$150. But I love them! They fit the waist & hips and come in a couple different finishes. I also drip dry them but after 3 years they still look brand new. I’ve recently seen them at Mitzi & Romano’s, occasionally at K-LA or Blue Genes.

I shop Lane Bryant. They’re not as good as they used to be back in the 70s and 80s (back when they still had the 5th Avenue store and didn’t have everything made in Indonesia) but they’re the only place I can be sure they’ll have my size. I’m a big curvy gurl, but unlike a lot of women I’m 5’9”, so finding stuff that fits not only my weight but my height is a problem.

Lucille, I can’t believe you are having trouble finding pants that fit your height. I am 5’4” and I have to hem all of my pants because they are designed for a woman who is 6 feet tall. I never find any pants that fit my height off the rack. As far as other fit, when you are larger (ot necessarily taller) it is hard to find anything suitable for this millennium. My choices are extreme teen low-rises that show way too much, or ugly “mom” jeans. Which is more acceptable: muffin top or mom butt? I usually just avoid jeans altogether and wear crops in the summer. The jeans makers left me behind long ago.

i’m curvey, with um..little in the trunk. LOL but thick thighs, that fill in the blacnk spot, lol an parasuco & Donna karen stretch do are the best. parasucao at envy in, joes honey jeans at cherry bomb in 5 points, an dnky at macy’s or dillards. those help witht he smaller waist & thcker leg without havin that gap in the back of the jeans or the hangin crotch.
