Flowery Branch — Defensive tackle Peria Jerry, the Falcons’ first-round draft pick, left the field under his own power after banging his knee with another player about halfway through Saturday’s morning practice. He did not participate in the evening practice.

After the practice, Falcons coach Mike Smith called the injury a mild sprain.

“He got banged up,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “We don’t know anything about it. He bumped knees, and we’ll know something by the end of the day. They took him in the training room to ice him.”

Jerry, 25, who is married with two children, led the SEC in tackles for loss last season and was generally considered the second-rated defensive tackle in the 2009 NFL draft behind Boston College’s B.J. Raji.
