• The Falcons have the 24th pick overall. Based on the 10-minute time limit for each team’s first-round selection, expect Atlanta to make its choice shortly before 8 p.m. — barring a trade.

• Stafford isn’t the only Bulldog likely to be drafted in the first round. His backfield mate, running back Knowshon Moreno, is projected to be taken somewhere in the middle of the first round. That could come roughly around 6:30 p.m.

• Georgia Tech’s Michael Johnson is expected to be taken only a few picks after Moreno. If the experts have it right, look for the 6-7, 266-pound defensive end to go sometime around 7-7:30 p.m.

• After the first round, the time limit drops to 7 minutes per team. With the Falcons owning the 23th pick of the second round, No. 55 overall, expect their other first-day selection to come after 10 p.m. We’ll have coverage of that pick too, no matter how late.

Meanwhile, late Friday night Stafford’s agents and the Lions secured a deal, meaning he will become the first Georgia player to go No. 1 overall since 1953. The six-year, $72-million contract ended weeks of speculation over whether the NFL’s worst team would pin their rebuilding hopes on the Bulldogs’ quarterback, who left school with one year of eligibility remaining.

Sports columnist Mark Bradley offers his thoughts on the Stafford deal and all things draft during his live blog, which begins at 4 p.m.
