Flowery Branch — To add depth at wide receiver, the Falcons waived defensive end Brandon Miller, a former University of Georgia player, and signed wide receiver Eric Weems from the practice squad to the active roster.
“We needed to have some depth there at wide receiver,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said.
Weems (5-foot-9, 191 pounds) has been on the practice squad all season. He was signed as a rookie free agent by the Falcons last year and spent the first 16 weeks on the practice squad. He made his NFL debut in the season-finale against Seattle.
Weems got the news Tuesday by a phone call.
“It actually put a smile on my face knowing that I would actually get a chance to show my talents,” said Weems, who played at Bethune-Cookman.
Miller was signed by the Falcons as a rookie free agent in April and spent the first 10 weeks of the season on the practice squad. He was moved to the active roster last Wednesday and was active for the Denver game, but didn’t see any action.
