The Falcons' roster overhaul could include Denver free-agent placekicker Jason Elam. Though the Brookwood High product is 38 years old - old by NFL standards - he's a relative spring chicken in comparison to Morten Andersen, 47, who has been Atlanta's field goal kicker the past two seasons.

Elam, who has spent all 15 of his NFL seasons with the Broncos, will visit the Falcons Wednesday. Elam is an unrestricted free agent with 1,786 career points and a share of the NFL record (63 yards) for the longest field goal.

Atlanta has been unable to solidify its place-kicking situation for the past three seasons, falling back on Andersen - with positive results - the past two. Andersen is a free agent and general manager Thomas Dimitroff said weeks ago that the Falcons would explore other options while maintaining contact with Andersen.

Based on the Falcons recent run of signing free agents since late February, the meeting with Elam would seem far more than just a flirtation.

Elam has converted 80.6 percent of his field goals in his career, nailing 27 of 31 last season. In six of the last seven seasons, he's made at least 11 field goals between 40-49 yards.

Restricted free agent Michael Koenen has handled the kickoff and punting duties the past three seasons and is expected to execute the same roles in 2008. The Falcons placed a tender on Koenen, a three-year veteran, to establish the right of refusal and a second-round draft pick as compensation should Koenen sign an offer sheet with another team.
