A California baseball team is offering free tickets to its game Sunday to any fan who sacrifices a Michael Vick jersey or T-shirt to the burn pile.
"Autographed memorabilia might get you a box seat," said Steve Bash, general manager of the Long Beach Armada, a minor league team in the independent Golden Baseball League, near Los Angeles. "We're probably going to throw them in a pit and burn them up and put it on YouTube."
Fans also are encouraged to bring their dogs for "Michael Vick Animal Awareness Day" at the 2:05 p.m. game against the St. George Roadrunners from Utah. The day also will offer a series of canine events, including wiener dog races, skate boarding dogs and doggie beauty contest during the game, Bash said.
He said he hopes to send an invitation to Vick to be a guest. Bash insisted that neither the team nor the league is judging Vick guilty but just using the federal indictment to bring attention to the issue of animal cruelty.
He did warn that Vick might find a hostile crowd of responsible dog owners who might throw doo-doo bags in his direction.
"He may not find a [supportive] crowd here," Bash said.
