Atlanta Falcons safety Lawyer Milloy was clocked at 77 mph in a 55 mph zone on I-85 early Monday when he was stopped by a Gwinnett County police officer and charged with speeding and driving under the influence, according to a police incident report released Tuesday.

Milloy told Officer D.M. Jias that he was on his way home from a strip club when his 2006 Range Rover was pulled over shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday.

According to the report, Jias smelled alcohol on Milloy’s breath and asked him how many drinks he had drank. He first said “one shot and a beer,” but later told the officer he had drank “two shots and a beer.”

Milloy failed several field sobriety tests, including registering a positive reading of .141 grams on a portable breath sensor.

Milloy was charged with speeding and “DUI-more than .08% alcohol in blood,” according to the report. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail at 4:35 a.m., and was released on bond about five hours later.

Milloy issued a statement Monday night through his lawyer, Manny Arora.

“I apologize to my family, my teammates, Mr. [Arthur] Blank, Coach [Mike] Smith, Thomas Dimitroff and our great fans for the incident that occurred following Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay,” Milloy said.

Smith, the head coach, on Monday termed the incident “completely unacceptable” but didn’t comment on any disciplinary measures that might be taken.

The Falcons have counted on the veteran Milloy, 34, to be a team leader both on the field and in the locker room.
