PEACHTREE CITY

Santa is coming to town, and not just Atlanta. He’s showing up all around the metro area as the days tick down to The Big Day. In Peachtree City, he’ll be appearing in style: Instead of riding a big red sleigh, he’ll be arriving on a glam, shiny red firetruck. For this visit, he’s also collecting gifts before distributing his own on Christmas Eve. On Dec. 16 and 17, he’ll ride through the neighborhoods of this Fayette County town to gather gifts and non-perishable foods for those in need during the holiday season. Grab a selfie and a handshake at no charge. Check out the city’s website for a full list of more than 65 neighborhood stops Santa will make this weekend.

9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dec. 16; 11:30 a.m.-5:30 a.m. Dec. 17. Free. Locations will vary. 770-487-7657, peachtree-city.org.

ROSWELL

Starlab

Things are really happening in the skies these days. At the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s inflatable planetarium, you might even say they’re blowing up. See for yourself as the center hosts two 25-minute presentations about why the new moon is not visible to human eyes. Learn about upcoming celestial events such as the Ursids Meteor Shower that’s happening later in December. While at the center, check out the other exhibits to learn about bald eagles, beavers and Georgia’s wetlands. Starlab is best for children ages 6 and older.

1-2 p.m. Dec. 17. $6-$10. Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell. 770-992-2055, chattnaturecenter.org.

DUNWOODY

Gingerbread House Party

Yum … breathe in the smell of fresh gingerbread and relax with a bit of fun this weekend when Vino Venue hosts a gingerbread house party for kids and adults. Admission includes instruction tips for decorating your gingerbread house, a lesson in how to make royal icing and, best of all, more than 20 different types of construction materials (that is to say, candy!). They’ll provide an already assembled gingerbread house as well, so no need to waste time trying to make sure that roof stays up. While decorating, enjoy mimosas and lunch specials, or check out the self-service wine machines. The price of admission is per gingerbread house.

1-3 p.m. $39. Vino Venue, 4478 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody. 770-668-0435, vinovenue.com.
