The big draft: Whiner's circle
Talk about the beer brackets
Bob Townsend's 16-beer bracket may have left out one of your favorites. Here's your chance to tell the world. If your brew was unfairly left out, tell us why it should be included and which beer you would eject from the Refreshing 16 to make room.
Or if you're cool with the bracket, maybe you can share your thoughts about which beers are best for watching basketball.
The top vote-getters from the original brackets:Western bracket:

So Redseal won this thing with nearly 2/3 of the vote when the contest closed, but voting has stayed open during all of April?
What was the point?

Great list for the hop heads, no doubt. Why would you want to put a bunch of beers in the Atlanta paper that you can't get in Atlanta? Hey, maybe I had the greatest beer ever made in East Bumble Flip, Montana that you can only have at the brewery and it's 3000 miles away! What good does that report do anyone in the Atlanta paper? A few beers that have a little malt character to them might have been nice though. Some folks' tastes have matured past the "chewing fresh pine needles the more the better" stage.

Dogfish Head 120 IPA will knock you out. I had one up in D.C. at a bar. A bottle at the bar cost around $18 bucks though. Later found out you can buy a 4 pack at liquor stores up there for $10. I gots swindled.

While I routinely support out local brewers, and think Sweetwater 420 is by far the best buy on the shelf when it isn't marked up too far, (I buy a 12-pak a week) ranking Sweetwater above the pricey Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA is the local guy winning for that reason alone, or the voter hasn't had the Dogfish. If you lust for hops, try the 60 minute. Better still, the 90 minute, and the Everest of hopiness, the rare 120 minute IPA, now those will deliver hops Nirvana!
Craps. Now I've got to run to the garage for a bottle.

I am surprised that you do not have any of the many Sam Adams' beers on the list. Maybe it's because I do not know the criteria to get on the list. Although it's seasonal and you can't buy it year-round, Sam Adams' Ocktoberfest is my favorite.

What happened to truth in labeling?
Flying Dog is to CO's best brewed beers like domestically available Guinness is to Ireland's.
Not!
How can the trade expect consumers to make better informed decisions without the best & most factually accurate reporting?

Fat Tire is awful. I think Georgians are fascinated with it only because you can't get it in GA. It's just plain terrible. Touri are the only consumers of the junk.
Short list of great beers that did not make the list (but are better than any named in the west): O'Dell's 5 Barrel Ale , Easy Street Wheat & IPA; Deschutes Brewery's Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Twilight Ale; Moose Drool; Teton Brewery's Sweetgrass IPA; Squatter's Full Suspension Ale and IPA; Wasatch's Polygamy Porter; Uinta's Cutthroat Ale; Red Hook ESB (for a more Macro brew like SN, which is a good beer and Anchor Steam)
The western bracket is crap.

I'm surprised that Samuel Adams is not represented. I think it stands up with other established beers such as Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada. The Brookly Lager is almost a clone of Sam's Boston Lager (no offense, I like them both...)

I agree on Fat Tire needing to be on this list even though it is not sold in Georgia. I was sold on that beer the first time I had it 12 years ago.

I'm pretty sure Bob was only including beers that are actually available in the Georgia market. This unfortunately leaves out Magic Hat, Ale Asylum, New Glarus and New Belgium.
