What’s For Dinner?

JOHN KESSLER / NOTES ON FOOD and MORE

Different things to sample on my new dining menu

Kessler’s going blog, but don’t call him a gastrobub

Goodbye. And hello.

We the food folks at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution have decided to mix things up a bit and, as a result, this will be my last regular column on EveningEdge.com.

Starting in a little over a week I’ll begin writing a new column in the AJC’s new Sunday Arts & Leisure section that will focus on dining — not reviews but stories about restaurants and the people behind them. Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman will continue writing critical reviews for accessAtlanta.com and will also begin a weekly column in this space.

What else? I’m going to start a blog in the new year that will cover a broad spectrum of topics — dining, cooking, food shopping and generally exploring the food scene around Atlanta. And at some point thereafter I will relaunch the First Look series of online videos about interesting new dining spots around town. Look for the new blog on accessAtlanta.com.

It has been a pleasure writing this column for the past three years. I hope that I didn’t expound too often or too self-indulgently about whipping up dinner for my family on the spur of the moment, Japanese food, fresh fruit in season, the culinary joys of Buford Highway, growing vegetables, yogurt and grilling strange cuts of meats but, as you may guess, those are my passions.

On the other hand, I may have given short shrift to any number of subjects, including hot dogs, Ruby Tuesday and making decorative marzipan figurines.

So, thanks so much for reading and please check out my new column and my blog. I’m still looking for a name for the latter and am entertaining any ideas that come my way. How about “Adventures of a Gastrobub?”

Yeah, I didn’t think so …

Thank you all for posting, and let me know what you think of the new column when it debuts Sunday, Dec. 21. Wooleybare, the falafel roundup is on the back burner, being kept at a temperature between 40 degrees and 140 degrees...

Don't care for Meredith Ford at all - forgive the pun but she seems rather "full" of herself. Kessler is a must-read & has been for years! AJC, your paper continues to disappoint me. I think you need to find a new Food editor...seriously!

I will miss your column in the paper each week. You were the high point of a paper that is going downhill. I wish you the very best in your new venture. I will really look forward to the blog. Several of your recipes are now regularly featured at my dining table. The potato Gratin is a begged for dish!

Well, I stopped reading the egotistical Ford months ago. So this is another Evening Edge space I will no longer go to....that leaves Bessmer to read and that is it.

Well, I will read you Mr. Kessler in your new home.

Good luck Mr. Kessler. Guess we will never get the rundown of other places to enjoy falafel. which you promised to write way back some months ago.
